Important update on GPLive

Due to an increase in no-shows and late cancellations for our digital GP service GPLive, we will update our cancellation charge process from the 1^st of December 2025. From 1st December, when booking a GP Live appointment, you’ll be asked to enter your card details. No fee is charged, and you still have access to this benefit at no extra cost.

If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment or don’t attend, a cancellation fee of €42 plus administration fees (€1.10 for IE cards and €1.92 for Non-IE cards) will apply.

GPLive is one of our most valued benefits to our members giving them fast access to an online video consultation with a GP who can help treat them for coughs, colds, chest infections and even minor sports injuries. While fair usage applies, laya healthcare members have unlimited access, at no additional cost to their cover. Members can make appointments quickly via our Laya App.

As GPLive service is high in demand, one member not showing up means that another member loses out on the consultation when they need it. We don’t think that’s fair. By introducing 24-hour cancellation fee, we hope that more people will release their slot and cancel when they know they can’t make it.

When booking a GPLive consultation online, members will receive clear information about the cancellation fee. Remember, you can cancel your appointment but in order not to be charged you will have to do so a minimum of 24 hours before your allocated time slot for the appointment.

How does GPLive work?

GPlive is an online video consultation service which allows you to speak face to face with a GP through your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop. GPlive GPs will be able to provide clinical advice and guidance and, if safe and suitable for you, issue a private prescription. They can also refer you for minor diagnostic tests and, if necessary, refer you for the most appropriate further treatment.

Need a medical cert, sick note or Consultant referral?

With GPlive, not only can you get diagnosed and treated for range of conditions from coughs, colds, chest infections and even sports injuries, if required, our GP’s can also refer you to a Consultant and even issue you with a medical cert should they feel you require some time off work to recover from your illness or injury.
