Important update on GPLive

Due to an increase in no-shows and late cancellations for our digital GP service, GPlive, we will introduce a 24-hour cancellation charge from 14th April 2025.

GPLive is one of our most valued benefits to our membership giving them fast access to online video consultation with a GP who can help treat them for coughs, colds, chest infections and even minor sports injuries. While fair usage applies, laya healthcare members have unlimited access, at no additional cost to their cover. Members can make appointments quickly via our Laya App.

We've seen a significant increase in no-shows and late cancellations. As GPLive service is high in demand, one member not showing up means that another member loses out on the consultation when they need it. By introducing 24-hour cancellation fee, we hope that more people will release their slot and cancel when they know they can't make it.

When booking a GPLive consultation online, members will receive clear information about the cancellation fee. Remember, you can cancel your appointment but in order to not be charged you will have to so a minimum of 24 hours before your allocated time slot for the appointment.

How does GPLive work?

GPlive is an online video consultation service which allows you to speak face to face with a GP through your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop. GPlive GPs will be able to provide clinical advice and guidance and, if safe and suitable for you, issue a private prescription. They can also refer you for minor diagnostic tests and, if necessary, refer you for the most appropriate further treatment.

Need a medical cert, sick note or Consultant referral?

With GPlive, not only can you get diagnosed and treated for range of conditions from coughs, colds, chest infections and even sports injuries, if required, our GP’s can also refer you to a Consultant and even issue you with a medical cert should they feel you require some time off work to recover from your illness or injury.

How much does it cost?

While fair usage applies, laya healthcare members have unlimited access, at no cost, to GPlive consultations until the end of December 2023.

The number of GP consultations offered is unlimited, notwithstanding that there are, of course, some clinical scenarios that are unsuitable for this type of medical consultation, so members are directed to the most appropriate service for their need. A pre-screening questionnaire determines clinical appropriateness and patient suitability for the benefit. This pre-screening questionnaire is a series of clinical questions designed to rule out any imminent medical emergencies which would require urgent A&E attendance rather than wait for a digital GP consultation. For every question presented, rationale is provided to ensure transparency.
